Christmas 2008

For this Christmas we went to the Josey clan in Maryland to hang out with Papa's family. The trip to Maryland was adventurous. We woke up to fresh fallen snow (4" on top of the 8" the day before and the 4" before that). With a check of our flight information, we discovered that our flight leaving seattle was canceled. After much frantic phone calls we eventually got onto a direct flight from Seattle to Maryland. On the plane we wound up sitting next to a group of Teenageed kids that were flying to Washington DC for a convention. They were great to sit next to, as they all wanted to play with Sean. Fine with us, he needed the distraction. Sean did great on the plane. (We landed late at night and went almost straight to bed.)

The first full day in Maryland all the siblings showed up and Sean was the center of attention. I don't think he minded at all. The siblings are Austin, Kristin and Tim. Austin girl freind Lara was there too.

Sean's Communication Guide

With the holidays coming up and many of you getting to see Sean we figured it would be good for us to post a communication guide. Yes he does know all of the following and will use uses them. You better study up, and yes there will be a test - when you see him...
  • Banana
  • Bath
  • Airplane
  • Dog
  • Brush Teeth
  • All Done
  • Bye / Hello
  • Hot
  • Light
  • Baby
  • Rain
  • Bird/Duck
  • Wind
  • Where (did ____ go) - is actually sign for what
  • Emergency (Siren) as in firetruck/police car (Rotating Lights)
  • Dance (gets "jiggy" with the arms or goes in circles)
  • Telephone / Phone
  • Up (Stands in front of you with arms raised)
  • Shake (Valiantly move right hand up and down)
  • Of course most of the above Sean has modified, but are recognizable if you know the sign and context he's using, most of the time. All of the above come from the American Sign Language University online.

    Verbals from Sean:
    • Dad/Papa is "Da Da"
    • Mom is "Da Da"
    • Kiss "Ma" with a head but
    • Stop is "Da"
    • Help is "Da" or "uh uh"
    • That is "Dat"
    • "oh wow" / "wow wow"
    • "Uh-O"
Good luck to you all - you're going to need it.

    Video Camera Fun

I randomly turned on the video camera today while Sean was sitting on my lap. We started playing with the effects button and Sean figured it out after watching Terah have some fun with it. These may be worth your time watching, but you'll have to watch to find out. (I like the second one much more then the first. Don't worry about the quiet audio, we aren't saying much.)

    Halloween '08

This was the first Halloween that Sean could partake in. Boy did he have lots of fun. We did the full gauntlet of activities. The Josey Grandparents came out and we all went to a local farm (roughly 45 minutes away). Sean had a bunch of fun! He picked out his own pumpkin, rode the stroller full of pumpkins, played on the play set, went through the petting zoo included with a "4 little pigs" show (no real wolf but a big pig), ate a hot dog and kettle corn and tried the juicy caramel apples, and of course, "drove" the tractor.

Uncle Tim, this is for you!

    Go Skins!

Sean finally fits into the Redskins outfit that the Josey clan got for
him. They would be proud, he really likes the outfit and it is nice
and warm. FYI the sizing on baby and toddler clothes is by no means
consistant. This outfit is 3-6 months in size, but he also wears 18
    month clothing.

    Sean wants to ride

The other day Sean wanted to try on my motorcycle helmet. Now every
time he sees it, he wants to put it on. This shot is from yesterday.
Wonder how long before I wind up taking him for a ride.

Hike to Ashland Lakes (Beaver Point Lake) July 19 '08

Last weekend we went hiking with my good friend Jeremy. This was Sean's first hike. In actuality he didn't hike much at all, but rode in a back pack on Papa's back. We started the day with good intentions. After Mom got done with a training walk for the big 60 mile Breast Cancer 3 Day walk she's doing, we quickly packed some food and stuff to go for the hike. We picked up Jeremy and headed towards the mountains.

Landon is a out of town friend that was in the area, so we decided to meet in Snohomish for lunch. There is a festival in the little town which of course meant that we had to spend some time walking around the town and catch up with Landon. Afterwards it was about 5:00 and we decided that we needed to get to the trailed, or we wouldn't get to the mountains at all that day. So off we went.

We drove out route 9 until right before the "Red Bridge" and took a right. After driving for about 4 miles on old logging roads (which our civic loved by the way), we found the trail head. We loaded Sean into the piggy back back pack and off we went.

The trail was nice enough, however with the late start and all we only made it to the first of the string of lakes. The one we made it to was Beaver Point Lake, about 2.5 miles in. There we stopped for some dinner and snapped the below pics. Afterwards we decided to head for the car, as we didn't want to have to hike out with headlamps with Sean on Papa's back.

We made it down OK and our wonderful little car enjoyed the trip too. We firmly would state that our car has been on more "off road," or gravel/logging/dirt roads then the average SUV has, especially in the greater Seattle Area. As for the car enjoying it, we assume that because we see gas mileage in the 38-40 mpg every time we hit the mountian roads, and no we don't do much coasting down hill.

    Lip smacking good.

    Sean's First Birthday

Sean's First Birthday Party - Held in the park by the freeway. In fact some people who had never been to the park before used either Map quest or Google Maps and the online maps directions said to park on the on ramp to the freeway, and walk in. Of course that is wrong.

There is a wading pool at this particular park, which is why it was chosen. However, some one forgot to fill it up. I guess they heard we were coming... Anyway Sean and the kids had fun playing in the jungle gym area before heading to the table to have cake. we all had lots of fun and enjoyed it too. Those of you who came, thanks again for coming. For those of you who didn't come, you missed out on a great time.

    Dancing Machine

Sean has always loved Music. He manages to always point out the drum kit and he loves to dance along with what he hear's. One day I received a phone call while at work from Mom. She told me that Sean was currently dancing to the Fire Engine Siren's as they drove by. What a hoot!!! He can find a beat in anything. He also likes to sing along on occasion; listen closely and you might hear him.

    Walking in Circles

With a number of you coming to town, I thought I'd give you a heads up as to what you are walking into. As you can see, he is mobile now. It is weird to put him down and then look at that spot a minute later and have him be gone. Or put him down, walk into another room and turn around to almost trip over him. Oh well, he's growing up fast.

    Layout Woes

I'm trying to decide how to best lay this thing out. If I were to use the default templates that are provided, the videos are too small to be seen. So I enlarged the videos, and then the page doesn't look good. Does an one know how to edit these templates? It would be great to have a side bar or some thing that scrolls with you as you scroll through old posts, or at least something to differentiate between posts that happen n the same day. Oh well, I'm going to stop here and actually get the link out to you all, so at least you know this exists. After all, it is a webpage, which is supposed to be continually changing, right?

    Father's Day '08

This one was a surprise for me. It was good to see him finally on his own.

    The Grand Josey's in Town

Video of Nanna Josey and Grandpa Josey is here. Notice the only clip of Grandpa, he is doing exactly what I remember my Grandpa always doing. Sean got sick shortly after the G's left town and we decided to video some of it, after dinner. That is what you see and what is wrong with Sean's voice. Oh well, he got over it, he sounded horrible for a couple of days, but weathered it pretty well.

    Sean's First Meal

Sean's first meal of solid food. Well actually the very first solid food we gave him was some applesauce on Thanksgiving Day (it seamed appropriate, and was only a couple of spoonfulls). We then took a break from the food for a while and this would be the next first food, or his first actual meal of solid foods.

    Starting Out

So with this site, we will attempt to keep people up to date with the going ons of Sean (and any other "kids") as they grow up. Please keep in touch by checking in and letting us know how we are doing. Our first objective is to put up all the video's that have been put together. Here goes nothing.
